AR COSMOS

Repository

This was my final project in my Unity3D VR/AR bootcamp at Grand Circus. My partner and I utilized augmented reality to bring the book “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan to life. For the proof of concept we created six different scenes and image targets. Each scene helped the user better visualize and interact with a concept in the book. We presented this app at Demo Day the end of March, 2018.

Chapter 1

Drag to move galaxy.

Chapter 2

Scale and tap to learn the phases of the moon.

Chapter 3

Tap to send asteroids to Earth 4.6 billion years ago.

Chapter 4

Press the button to launch and hear real audio from NASA.

Gameplay

The first part of the scene helps the user visualize the phases of the moon in relation to the sun. They can tap on a moon to learn the phase of the moon in that position. The second part of the scene allows the user to test their knowledge. They are given a random phase of the moon, if they tap the correct moon they get another phase, if not they keep guessing. Chapter 2 (above) is this scene from the users point of view.

Page Mock-Up

We imagined a user buying a book and downloading the complementary app. As they read the book they come across pages like this mock-up. They use their app and a unique image target, like the astronaut, to trigger the correct augmented reality experience that corresponds to the page of the book.
